Roaming with a JT SIM card

We hope you are enjoying your new SIM Card, if you still need to set up the service, please make sure you complete these steps:

  1. Activate your SIM card
  2. Purchase credit or a data plan
  3. Set up data on your device
  4. Manage your account

Activate your SIM

  1. Visit www.rechargeminutes.com or open the JT Travel App (download free from the App Store or Google Play)
  2. Enter the SERIAL CODE printed on your SIM card
  3. Follow the prompts
  4. Once you complete the process you will receive your +44 Global number. You will require this number to access your account as well as the PIN your selected.

Please note: You may be required to purchase credit to activate

Set up your device

  1. Ensure your device is unlocked and works with the frequency of the countries you are travelling to

  2. Choose the correct SIM size required for your device and push it out from the plastic card

  3. Turn off your device and insert the SIM in the SIM slot or tray
  4. Turn your device on. Once connected to a network, set up data (refer to one of the Setting up data and internet sections listed below)
  5. You are good to go!

Make a call

To make a call using our service you will need to dial:

+ country code area code phone number

Example: To call (213) 337-5555 in the US, you need to dial:

+ 1 213 3375555

Please note, you must dial the country code even if you are making a local or national call and drop the leading zero if the number you are calling has one.

To send a text message using our service you will need to enter:

+ country code area code phone number

Example: To send a text message to (213) 337-5555 in the US, you need to enter:

Please note, you must include the country code even if you are sending a local or national text message and drop the leading zero if the number you are contacting has one.

Set up data and internet - Android devices

  1. Select Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile (or Cellular) networks
  2. Switch on Data roaming
  3. Select Access Point Names (APN)
  4. Add a new APN by pressing + or menu key
  5. Enter 'mobiledata' as Name for APN.
    Select Save from the menu options
  6. Select the new APN titled 'mobiledata'
  7. Go to Settings > Data usage.
    Ensure Mobile (or Cellular) data is switched on

Set up data and internet - iPhone

  1. Select Settings > Cellular Data (or Mobile Data)
  2. Ensure Cellular Data (Mobile Data) is On and Data Roaming is On
  3. Select APN Settings, and in the APN field enter 'mobiledata'
    Leave all other fields blank.
  4. Press the menu button
  5. Launch the internet browser

Set up data and internet - iPad

  1. Select Settings > Cellular Data (or Mobile Data) > Cellular Data Options (or Mobile Data Options)
  2. Ensure Cellular Data (Mobile Data) is On and Data Roaming is On
  3. Select APN Settings, and in the APN field enter 'mobiledata'
    Leave all other fields blank.
  4. Press the menu button
  5. Launch the internet browser

Set up data and internet - WiFi Hotspots

Refer to your device's manual to do the following:

  1. Access your device's settings
  2. Change APN to 'mobiledata'
  3. Ensure data roaming is switched on

If you purchased a JT Hotspot from us, it is pre-configured and you can start using the data service straight away. For troubleshooting, please refer to the userguide (752KB)

a. In the USA - Your SIM Card will be automatically activated when your phone registers with an available network

b. Outside the USA - Manually activate your SIM Card before arriving in the US**

** Depending on the plan you choose, your service expires in 14 or 30 days from activation. We advise you to activate the SIM and add a plan a few days before departure to ensure your service is good to use when you arrive in the USA. This will also allow you to stay in touch with family and friends whilst in transit.
